A short history of Thomas Richins and Harriet Deveraux written by their granddaughter, Afton Gene Richins Fischio. Thomas and Esther traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah from England in 1856. They lived in Salt Lake for four or five years before helping settle what is now Goshen, Utah County, Utah. Harriet died in 1896; Thomas died in 1896. They are buried in the Pleasant Grove (Utah) City Cemetery.

Frederick William Hurst was the tenth child of William and Mary Ann Green Hurst. The family left England in 1839 to colonize New Zealand. In 1852 Frederick and his brothers labored in the Bendigo [Australia] goldfields where Frederick joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1855, he and his brother Clement sailed for the United States by way of Tahiti, the Hawaiian Islands. Frederick was involved in many Mormon pioneer activities in Utah and a mission to New Zealand later in life. He passed away in October1918 in his 85th year.

In 1853, Edmund Richardson traveled with his small family, his mother-in-law, sister-in-law and her husband toward Oregon to help establish a religious colony in Oregon Territory under the direction of the Reverend George F. Whitworth, whose 1853 diary provides an indirect account of the Richardsons' trail experiences west from Indiana on the Oregon Trail.

Ira was born on October 28, 1793 at New Ashford, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, the son of Titus and Lois Rice. Orphaned early in life, Ira was raised by relatives in western New York state where he enlisted to fight in the War of 1812. Later he moved his family to Michigan where he was visited by missionaries of the newly-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family joined about 1840, and subsequently moved first to Nauvoo, Illinois, then to Utah. Ira died April 14, 1868, at Washington, Utah.
